How do you feel about putting your company data files in the cloud? Do you trust it. Do you think about it? Amazon has their storage product, called S3, and a LOT of developers and companies "resell" it and mark it up. There are also online backup companies that say "let us back up that data" for you. Of course it's also storing your backups online.
We are proponents of a distributed data storage strategy, for "almost" any type of firm.
We've deployed ZMANDA backup systems for customers, which offers both on site and off site backup. We've looked at box.net and other online storage vendors. We've made our own conclusions...
The technology is "better" than last year, and maturing quickly. What we've also found is that we can have a single source for a local file server. hosted file server and automated backup. A single product and a single bill. With a SAS 70 Type II data center , which is also HIPAA compliant, it is trustworthy. With an eye towards profitability, they are growing. They know what every subscribers costs and how much margin they should be making on it. This has earned them another 10 million in funding just announced this month.
